In addition to hearing from you, it’s an opportunity to network and connect with other clinical social workers. If you work or live in the area, we hope you will swing by. The location is  The Hanger at 6728 Northeast 181st Street, Kenmore, WA 98028

Muslim clients have reported different experiences with therapy. From experiencing religious micro-aggressions to feeling unsafe in the therapeutic space. Muslim clients seeking therapy in the United States are known to face numerous barriers. This presentation aims to provide therapists with an understanding of the different barriers Muslim clients face when deciding to start therapy, important cultural considerations, as well as using multicultural orientation (MCO) when treating Muslim clients. Incorporating multicultural orientation into practice is important to help clients feel more comfortable, accepted, and safe in the therapeutic space.

Learning Objectives

  • Recognize different barriers for Muslim populations in accessing therapy.
  • Detect possible micro-aggressions towards Muslim clients that may occur in therapy.
  • Introduce Multicultural Orientation (MCO) and explore the importance of a multiculturally informed practice.
