DESCRIPTION
COVID-19 thrust teletherapy from a place of “optionalness,” as treated by standards of care, to a place of absolute necessity for public health. While therapists across the US have worked hard to adjust to this new reality, there is room for deeper exploration of skills and concepts. Specifically, this program will cover some basic-intermediate skills in the delivery of teletherapy via videoconferencing and explore complex ethical dilemmas facing teletherapists today, such as cross-border practice and expectations regarding therapist competence. We will also explore how teletherapy exposes unique needs for multicultural competence, especially when we conceptualize teletherapy as a virtual way of performing “home visits.”
