As climate change becomes more evident, we, and our clients, face the possibility of an unknown and unstable future. In response to increased awareness and concern, clients may present with a range of existential, climate-specific responses involving anxiety, depression, trauma, guilt, and despair. Mental health professionals are called upon to assist clients in coping with very reasonable fears and fear responses; and to help them find meaning and purpose in the face of a frightening future. In this clinical evening, we will explore research and interventions related to climate psychology; and we will have a dialogue about the challenges clinicians face in working with these themes.
Andrew Bryant, LICSW has a background in public health.
