Intimacy avoidant behaviors related to finances, food, sex, and relationships are sometimes misunderstood or miscategorized in the therapeutic setting. Heather will help clinicians understand the connection between these different intimacy-avoidant behaviors as well as their connection to FOO, trauma, and culture.
Objectives
1. Define and differentiate characteristics of intimacy avoidant behaviors and how they may present in a therapeutic setting. 2. Discuss the role of family of origin, trauma, culture and socioeconomic status in the development of intimacy avoidant behaviors.
Presenter, Heather Lowrey, LMHC in the state of Washington, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Texas and a National Certified Counselor (NCC). After working as an accountant for seven years, she took a leap of faith and made a career change! Heather has been a therapist since 2009 and her passion is helping individuals and families live the lives they desire and deserve.Heather specializes in intimacy disorders such as problematic sexual behaviors, disordered eating and body image, and problematic relationship with finances. Her experience has been in the non-profit and private sectors, in areas from sexual assault and incest recovery to eating disorders, financial counseling to sexual addictions.
