The decision to share information obtained in a confidential relationship is significant. You'll leave this session clear on the "what, when and how" of filing a report of suspected child abuse with Child Protective Services (CPS). You'll also learn what a client can expect after a report has been filed so you can assist them manage the anxiety associated with this process. 

Objectives

1.  Increase knowledge regarding what needs to be reported.

2.  Describe when and how to file a report with CPS.
3.  Understand what happens after a report has been filed.

About the Presenter

Heather Lofgren, MSW, CPS Quality Practice Specialist, Region 2

Heather has worked for the Department of Children, Youth & Families, Child Protection Services since 2008 as a CPS investigator, Supervisor, and currently as a Quality Practice Specialist where she trains and coaches workers on the Department’s policy and practice. She holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Social Work obtained by the University of Washington. She is passionate about child safety and is dedicated to working with community partners, as well as families to promote solutions and resource to families in crisis.
