About the Conference
Understanding Cultural Competence, racism and privilege is essential to any clinical practice.  This training develops our skills as clinical social workers, mentors and supervisors by:  1) Providing a framework on how to address issues of equity and race; 2) Creating common language for entering into discourse.  This framework deepens the awareness of self—moving from color blindness to racial cognizance; increasing knowledge of others and their experiences of racism and oppression; developing skills to work effectively across cultures; and advocating and taking action to initiate change. 


Objectives

1.  Create a common language for the work that we need to do to grow in our cultural competence.

 2.  Learn strategies for engaging in courageous
conversations about race.

3.  Increase understanding of implicit bias and the impact on cross cultural relationships.

About the Presenter
Dr. Caprice D. Hollins was born and raised in Seattle, Washington.  She received a B.A. in Psychology from Seattle University and an M.A. and Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Multicultural and Community Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology―L. A. She was the Director of Equity, Race & Learning Support for Seattle Public Schools for four years. She then started Cultures Connecting, LLC, providing culturally relevant professional development workshops, leadership coaching and consulting services to organizations seeking to improve their skills in effectively engaging all cultures- www.culturesconnecting.com.  She co-authored Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion:  Strategies for Facilitating Conversations on Race.
